Spring Session

This 6 week course will take you from the very beginning with your camera through making beautiful pictures. We’ll start by familiarizing you with all of the buttons and menus on the camera. Learn the various shooting modes, white balance options, all the flash modes, reviewing images, what accessories you need and more. Then we’ll move to advanced features on the camera including exposure compensation, the histogram, flash exposure compensation, ISO settings and metering methods. Once you’ve got the mechanics down we’ll spend our time working on composition and using the camera. There will be a composition lecture teaching you how to compose and expose for pictures using the tools you just learned. Then students will shoot subjects of their choice and bring images to class for critique to help them make better images.

Want to gain more control over your photography? Learn to use your camera in the manual modes. Join me to demystify apertures and shutter speeds. Learn to use aperture priority to gain control over your depth of field. Understand shutter priority and when to use it. Finally understand the manual mode and how to make correct exposure decisions. After I explain the concept with lecture, each student will practice various shooting exercises to reinforce the concepts. Learn hands on to gain more control over your camera. This class is for SLR camera users only, it is geared for digital, but film is welcome.
Intermediate SLR Photography Part II Wednesdays 6:30-8:30p

Stultz Center Room 127Now that you have basic knowledge of using your SLR camera let’s put it to use. This assignment based class will offer students lots of practice using their camera in the manual modes. Each week will be a short lecture followed by critiques of student’s images from the previous week’s assignment. Assignments will include:
This class will give students a better feel for their camera and offers a chance to learn from other student’s successes and problems. Bring camera with owners manual.
Prerequisite: Intermediate Photography Part 1 or permission from instructor.
Maximum of 12 students due to time needed to critique images.
Advanced Photograhy Field Workshop Wednesdays 6:30-8:30p
April 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th and May 2nd

Field sessions - Each class will have a 2-3 hour field trip the weekend following the lecture so please keep those open. Final destinations and time/dates will be announced in class.

Each week I will introduce a different photography subject, then we'll meet in the field later that week to practice hands on what we've learned. You must know how to use the SLR camera in the manual modes (manual, aperture & shutter priority) or have taken Intermediate Photography for the SLR camera part 1 +/- part 2. Student should also know how to download and email images for critique/review sessions. Please contact instructor for questions on admission requirements.

Beginning Adobe Lightroom 3.0
Tuesdays 6:30-8:30p
March 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th and April 3rd

Learn how to use this powerful tool to organize, edit and output your photography. Adobe’s latest product combines the best aspects of Bridge and Photoshop’s common editing tools into one program. We will explore each module so the student can efficiently navigate the program. In the Library learn to import images, organize them with keywords, add captions and more. Then we’ll explore the versatile Develop module to edit images. Finally we’ll look at the output modules for Slideshow, Print and Web so you can effectively present your images. This class requires the student to have basic proficiency on the computer. Please make sure you understand the basic filing system on your computer, ie Windows - Explore, Mac - Finder. Each class will consist of lecture and then hands on practice time with the instructor present. A laptop with the latest version of Lightroom installed is highly recommended so you can work on the program during class. Limited to 12 students. This class uses Lightroom 3.0 to teach but 2.0 versions are welcome.
