    Getting the Most Out of Your Digital Camera
    Wednesdays, 1-3p, Sep 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, Oct 15th, 29th.

    Getting to Know Your Digital Camera
    Weeks 1 & 2

    This hands-on class starts with a digital primer covering the basic concepts unique to digital photography including mega pixels, file size, file quality and file formats. After learning about these features we will find them on the camera and set them up based on each student’s individual preferences. From here we will explore a multitude of features on the camera to get you more comfortable using the camera. We’ll look at shooting modes, white balance, review mode, the lens, flash options and more. By the end of the class I want you to be able to confidently maneuver the menus and options on your camera.
    Techniques for Filing, Editing, Printing and Emailing
    Week 3

    Now that you have all these great images how do you organize them? Back them up? Edit them? Send them over the internet or print them? This lecture style class will provide the student with a basic workflow. We will start by discussing how to download images from your camera then file and back them up. Editing programs are discussed and finally methods and materials for printing and emailing are addressed. I am unable to address all of the different programs out there so I will use Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 to demonstrate the above techniques. The end of this class will be devoted to a composition primer to prepare the student for the following 2 weeks.
    Composition and Critique
    Weeks 4,5 & 6

    Now you have the basics of camera operation down, let’s make beautiful images! The final 2 weeks will concentrate on photographic composition and you using your camera. We will discuss the techniques it takes for you to improve your images. Students will bring 5-10 images to class each week for critique I will evaluate your images and give you constructive feedback. Show me your great images and your problems. Learn from your experiences as well as those of your classmates.
    The purpose of the series is to give the student a well rounded understanding of the camera and how to use it in real life situations. The student will also get a basic understanding of how to manage images on the computer. The classes are hands on to aid the student in learning. The class comes with detailed hand outs. The course runs for 6 weeks, 2 hours each week.
    Student materials required: Own digital camera with charged batteries, empty memory card and manual.

    Beginning Editing/Organizing with Photoshop Elements

    Wednesdays 10-Noon, Sep 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, Oct 1st
    Now that you have all these great images how do you organize them? Back them up? Edit them? Send them over the internet or print them? This class will provide the student with a basic workflow. We will start by discussing how to download, organize, keyword and back up images from your camera. Basic editing techniques for cropping, straightening, exposure and color adjustments, cloning and sharpening are addressed. Finally we’ll discuss how to email and print images. Each class will compose of lecture and student practice. A laptop with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 is required for the class. Elements can be downloaded free for 30 days from www.adobe.com. Please bring your laptop with the program installed and ready to go, your camera with images on it or the media card with images on it and a card reader to the first class

    Digital SLR Photography (Intermediate Photography)
    Tuesdays 6:30-8:30p Sep 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th
    Want to gain more control over your photography? Learn to use your camera in the manual modes. Join me to demystify apertures and shutter speeds. Learn to use aperture priority to gain control over your depth of field. Understand shutter priority and when to use it. Finally understand the manual mode and how to make correct exposure decisions. After I explain the concept with lecture, each student will practice various shooting exercises to reinforce the concepts. Learn hands on to gain more control over your camera. This class is for SLR camera users only, digital or film.

    Student materials required: Own digital camera with charged batteries, empty memory card and manual.
    I will need a minimum of 5 students to run the class with a maximum of 10 students. If there are less than 5 students your money will be refunded and the class rescheduled.

    Learn to use your digital camera. You have the basics of camera operation down, now let’s make beautiful images! Join me in this 3 week class on photographic composition. In the first class I will address various shooting situations, give tips and show examples of what works compositionally and what doesn’t. Then it’s your turn. The following two weeks will be devoted to critiquing your images. Students will bring 5-10 images to class each week for critique. I will evaluate your images and give you constructive feedback. Show me your great images and your problems. Learn from your experiences as well as those of your classmates. This is a great opportunity to get the most out of your digital camera!

    Learn the basics of nature photography with lecture and hands on shooting in the field. We’ll start with a 2 hour lecture on the basics of nature photography. Learn techniques for shooting in a variety of nature situations, what equipment to use and when the best times to go out are. We'll spend two Saturday mornings shooting in the field at local parks putting what you learned to use. The class is rounded out with 2 critique sessions on Wednesday evenings following each Saturday shooting session. Here we will look at images everyone created on location and critique them. This class proves to be fun and exciting and a great way to get into the field in a new subject. This class is best for SLR cameras. Point and shoot users should contact the instructor prior to signing up.

    If you use your digital camera for your business, this is the class for you! Learn how to use all the bells and whistles of your camera, composition and techniques, downloading and storage of photos and how to shoot in specific situations such as exteriors, house/building interiors, products, etc. Great for real estate professionals, contractors, eBay sellers, hospitality businesses and more. Bring your camera and instruction manual, fresh batteries and a blank media card.
